Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio

Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio LLC Policies

Thank you for joining Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio! I'm glad you're here, and I can't wait to make music with you. Please take a moment to review the following policies.

Attendance

Students are required to attend lessons on a weekly basis. Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio LLC has the right to discontinue lessons with any student who misses lessons regularly or who continually does not show the expected level of commitment.

Advertising and Promotional Release

Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio LLC may use photos, videos or audio recordings of the student(s) for advertising and promotional purposes, unless studio is notified otherwise by email.

Dismissal

If a student continually does not practice or progress, if payment is consistently overdue, or if a parent or student behaves or corresponds disrespectfully with anyone who is a part of JSMS (including other students), the student will be dismissed from the studio with no refund for the missed lessons.

Extra Lessons
If time permits, additional lessons may be scheduled to prepare for performances or auditions. Fees for extra lessons are payable 24 hours before the lesson and current pricing will apply.

Intellectual Property
The knowledge shared with students is the intellectual property of Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio LLC, and is not to be shared with others. The same applies to materials such as music files, practice videos, background tracks and sheet music provided in lessons.

Late Fees
There will be a late fee of $20 if tuition is paid after the 1st day of the month. If full tuition is not paid by the 7th day of the month, subsequent lessons will not be taught until the tuition and late fee are paid.

Length of Lesson
Lessons will begin at the scheduled time and continue for the agreed upon amount of time (30, 45 or 60 minutes), unless special arrangements are made. No accommodation will be made for tardiness on the part of the student, unless time permits and no other lesson or scheduled appointment is delayed. Instructor will wait 10 minutes for a tardy student until the lesson is considered ended.

Make-Up Lessons & Missed Lessons
No monetary credit or refunds will be awarded for missed lessons. If a student cannot attend a lesson due to sickness or a scheduling conflict, the lesson must be canceled via email and text. If a cancelation notice is sent at least 24 hours before a lesson, the student will be eligible for a potential make-up or asynchronous lesson, if possible. If a student or family experiences a last-minute emergency, they will be eligible for a make-up.

Students are allowed one lesson per semester to be made up (except for an emergency situation); this is standard private music studio practice. A make-up lesson must be scheduled within 30 days of an absence, or the credit expires. There will be no refunds for unused make-up lessons, nor will the credits transfer to the summer session or the following school year. All make-ups will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. If choosing an asynchronous make-up lesson, the student's videos/assignments should be submitted within 48 hours of the missed lesson, so that feedback can be given before the next week's lesson. No make-ups or asynchronous lesson options are given if a student does not have their lesson materials ready. No make-ups or asynchronous lesson options are given for no-show lessons or less-than-24-hour cancelations (except for an emergency situation).

Materials

Every student should bring their notebook/binder and appropriate lesson books/sheet music to each week's lesson. All students should have a laptop (preferred) or tablet that is capable of video conferencing. Every piano student should have a tuned, acoustic or digital piano with 88 weighted keys at their home for practice purposes. Voice students are strongly encouraged to have headphones & a microphone at their lesson. I'm happy to recommend reasonably-priced keyboards, mics and headphones. Students are responsible for purchasing their books and necessary materials in a timely manner. All students should arrange to have their lessons in a quiet, distraction-free space.

Performances and Recitals
JSMS presents its much-anticipated "Studio Soirée" in late spring. It's an opportunity for all of our students from around the country and abroad to come together online and perform for each other in a highly supportive environment. It's a blast and a hit with the students! JSMS may also host a Winter Online Concert to benefit the community in December. Dates will be announced well in advance of the performances. Attendance at studio performances is mandatory for students occupying weekly time slots, and performing is strongly encouraged. The more you perform in front of your peers, the more confident you will become!

Policy and Rate Updates

The policies and tuition rates are subject to change on an as needed basis.

Practice & Preparation
As teacher, part of my responsibility is to encourage a commitment to a regular practice routine. This requires discipline & dedication on the part of the student, but the rewards are infinite, and at-home practice sessions don't have to be a drag! As a parent or guardian, you can greatly help out in this responsibility by finding a consistent practice time that works best in your child's schedule. Practice makes progress... and making progress is not only an important life skill -- it feels awesome!

Students are expected to arrive to each lesson practiced and prepared with all necessary lesson materials. Lessons are not to be used as supervised practice sessions; all assigned music should be practiced at home. For optimal growth, students should practice a minimum of 75 minutes per week (15 minutes/weekday) with videos or recordings from the previous lesson.

Parental assistance may be required to help younger students understand their assignment for the week, or to sit down and help them practice in the early stages. If you are unsure of your student's practice assignment or your role, please reach out to the teacher for clarification and tips.

Registration

Existing students and families will be sent a "First Opportunity" email in late July/early August to request preferred days/timeframes for lessons in the studio new year (which begins on September 4). Once students/families submit the registration form, and a lesson time is confirmed by the teacher, a non-refundable Registration Fee of $85 will be due upon receipt. Payment of the registration fee secures the student's reserved lesson time.

Summer

For their own benefit and continuation of progress, students are expected and strongly encouraged to continue lessons in the summer between school years. Should a student/family have an extenuating circumstance in regards to summer scheduling, they may contact Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio LLC for potential summer options.

Teacher Absence
The teacher will reach out to try to schedule a make-up for a lesson missed due to teacher absence. If a mutual make-up time is not available for both student and teacher, or if the student prefers, an asynchronous lesson will be offered within 14 days. In the unlikely event that the Teacher must miss a lesson due to a serious emergency or illness, the Teacher may take one sick day per semester per student without make-up or refund.

Tuition

Monthly tuition invoices will be sent on the 25th of each month. Full tuition payment for each month is due by the first day of each month. Pricing for drop-in students and extra lessons is available upon request. Tuition is paid within the student's/family's MyMusicStaff portal which utilizes PayPal.

Withdrawal Policy
There will be no refund or credit of tuition for any reason. In the event you decide to discontinue or pause lessons, 30-days' paid advanced notice to Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio LLC is required via email per studio policy. Failure to give proper notice will result in being charged for the coming month. Without a written withdrawal from lessons, Jennifer Sheehan Music Studio LLC has the right to pursue payment and collection of the total monthly tuition due by legal means if necessary. Students will have one last lesson once notice is given. Future lesson day/time slots will be forfeited once lessons are paused or discontinued. If/when students begin lessons again, they will be charged the most current tuition rate and registration fee.

I appreciate your commitment to your or your child's education in music! It is through support at home and at lessons that you or your child will flourish and feel the joy that comes with developing a love and mastery of wonderful music! I'm looking forward to sharing my love of music and the arts with you or your child!
